Founded in 2015 by designer Mathias, the Matières Libres association supports young creators under the age of 30, whether they are graduates of applied arts or craft schools or self-taught, at a pivotal moment in their careers: their transition into the professional world. Each year, following a call for applications and a jury’s deliberation, the association awards several prizes as part of the Mathias Prize and the Baccarat Prize. These awards recognise projects that stand out for their originality, sense of innovation, and mastery of one or more materials. Driven by a strong commitment to support the next generation of designers, Matières Libres regularly showcases the work of its winners at prestigious events, such as Paris Design Week or the Biennale Révélations.
